Warts
Warts are rough and hard nodules and are caused by a virus. This virus causes the skin to grow too quickly and this causes warts. The shape of a wart looks a bit like a cauliflower. Warts can be found in various different places, but are most common on the hands and feet. It’s also possible to suffer from genital warts, water warts and skin tags.
Warts don’t itch and usually don’t hurt. Foot warts can hurt when standing or walking. This is because the wart is then pressed into the sole of your foot.
- You suffer from rough and hard lumps on your hands or feet. They have a cauliflower-like shape.
- If you’re not particularly bothered by your warts, it’s best to do nothing. They will go away on their own. Half of all warts disappear within 1 year. Sometimes they last longer than 2 years.
- You can get a remedy from the chemist or pharmacy to treat your warts yourself. The staff at the chemist or pharmacy can provide you with advice regarding the best product.
We recommend you contact your GP if your warts are bothering you, or if they are particularly painful. Your GP can treat the wart, prescribe an ointment or do both. Your GP will also be able to assess whether or not it’s a harmless wart. So even when in doubt, we recommend you contact your GP.
