Deaf and hard of hearing
Call us with KPN Teletolk
If you have a hearing impairment or a speech impediment, you can call the GP emergency station via KPN Teletolk (www.kpn.com/teletolk). This is a text and image mediation service. This allows deaf, hard of hearing, people with speech impairments and hearing people to call each other. If you are no longer able to use regular telephony, you can use this mediation service.
How does it work?
As a user, you need special software to make calls via KPN Teletolk, the Total Conversation software. You can download it on your computer, tablet and/or smartphone via one of the providers of this software. After installation, you can call any telephone number (with the exception of 0906 and 0909 numbers). For each conversation, you can choose text mediation or image mediation.
Text Mediation
Text mediation involves typing what you want to say. The KPN Teletolk employee reads this to the hearing person. The hearing person doesn’t need a special phone or software and can just talk back.
Image mediation
If you opt for image mediation, the same thing happens, but with gestures. A registered sign language interpreter takes care of converting the spoken language into sign language and vice versa. With both options, you can choose to speak yourself instead of typing
