The challenges of governance
01-02-2022 -by Quirijn Ruitenberg – retiring board member
In 2015 I joined the board of the DDDB to be more involved in my 2nd workplace. Due to the flat organizational structure, I felt involved in the day-to-day functioning of the postal service. It soon became clear that functioning as a stand-alone post made the DDDB very vulnerable. Especially in the back office, we were very dependent on a limited number of (very good) employees.
Partly because of this, the need arose to start a collaboration process with the SHR. Initially, the aim was to support each other in the organization and thus make us less vulnerable in the event of failure. But it soon became apparent that this cooperation was legally and organizationally unworkable without an actual merger.
The subsequent merger process then became a long, extensive, thorough but also interesting process, with the great result of Huisartsenposten De LIMES. Very proud of what we had achieved, I wanted to continue in the new board, in order to further shape our idea.
At the same time, the COVID-19 pandemic manifested itself, as a representative of the board I was part of the crisis team. As a result, I was closely involved in setting up the Corona Emergency Post. And here it was fantastic to see how well the cooperation between the posts and the hospitals and the RAV went.
However, I noticed more and more that the position of the current board has become different than before. As is also the legal and organizational intention, the board is more remote in a larger organization. And the day-to-day challenges and problems lie more with the director/director and the (medical) managers. For this reason, I have decided to withdraw from the board, in order to make way for another colleague. Because there are still a number of great challenges ahead. For example, the question of what to do with the night shifts, the involvement of observers in the distribution of shifts. But also thinking along and helping to set up a powerful monodisciplinary organization in the region.
